The Compaq UHF repeater is on 444.450 with a +5meg offset for the input. It is made up of a GE Master Exec.II with Sinclair duplexors, and a Micro Computer Concepts RC-1000 controller. It has a 10 meter Remote Base that can be brought up on demand, and it can be switched between 29.600 simplex or 29.620 with the standard 100khz repeater offset.
It is located in the Elevator Penthouse of Building 5 on the Compaq Computer Corp. complex in N.W. Houston, on State Highway 249 at Louetta. The antenna is a Diamond X-300 Dual band, for UHF/VHF. This puts it around 150 feet in the air.
This repeater puts out 50 watts and has about a 25 to 30 mile coverage area. It is backed up by the building UPS system, that is then backed up by the building natural gas generators.
The repeater always encodes a CTCSS tone of 103.5 Hz and when it's necessary, requires 103.5 Hz to access. Usually if the 10 meter Remote Base is active the PL will be required for access. The repeater is open with the exception of the AutoPatch being closed to Compaq Club Members only. Because of the AutoPatch being a closed system, we request that the access codes NOT be given out over the air. Anyone requiring the codes should contact Walter Holmes via Email at K5WH@Compaq.Com.
To access the AutoPatch, give your call with the request to use the Patch, and pause for a few seconds. This is to allow anyone with an active conversation in progress time to let you know if there is something more important taking place, like an Emergency of some type. To proceed, send the access code and the phone number you want to call, all in one sequence, then unkey. After a couple seconds you'll hear the dialtone, then the dialing of the phone number. When finished, be sure to identify yourself, and your 3rd party, either before or after you send the patch down code. This is to keep YOU legal with the FCC.
